Total mobile phone shipments in Western Europe fell 4.2 per cent year-on-year in Q1 to 43.6 million units due to a lower than expected slowdown in shipments.
Looking at the global mobile phone shipments, Samsung is still at the top with 24.3% market share. Nokia is at the second spot with 11.3% share, but it is down from 13% in last quarter. The company continues to push out affordable feature phones. Over , IDC expects 1.2 billion shipments in 2014
According to latest reports by IDC Samsung has outnumbered India’s most trusted brand Nokia in terms of overall mobile phone shipments during the first quarter of the calendar year.
Nokia managed to ship on 15% of the handsets in India during the first quarter of 2013 as compared to 16% handsets shipped by Samsung. The other companies that managed to register their places in the top 5 are Micromax, Karbonn and Lava. Apple hasn’t managed to garner enough shipment numbers as yet but, the fruity company is increasing its sales by leaps and bounds since last year.
Going into analysis, the total mobile phone shipments in the second quadrant of 2014, Indian brands dominated the list with more than two-third of the total mobile phone shipments. Micromax gained 16.6% market share in India in second quarter this year against the 13% share in the first quarter, which eventually lead to the fall of Samsung’s market share to 14.4% in Q2 of 2014 and this might be due to the heavy pricing that it is implementing.
