  • When it comes to pen size, the Century fits me just like that pair of shoes right out of the box that make you want to dance. It isn’t the first pen to do so but it’s been a long time since a pen I’ve never used before has done so. If the Levenger True Writer, Sailor 1911, Pilot Custom 742, Waterman Carene, or Retro 51 Scriptmaster, fit your hand, the Century should, too.

  • Soon after graduating, I stumbled upon a fountain pen in an antique store and it brought back a wave of memories of my grandfather using them, specifically the coffee cup full of fountain pens on his desk. I knew nothing of these mystifying writing instruments at the time, but, thanks to Google, that soon changed. I bought my first three fountain pens all at once (a Faber-Castell Ambition, a Retro 51 Scriptmaster II, and a Retro 51 Tornado) during a sale at a local art store. Then, I discovered FPN and met a local enthusiast who ushered me into the fanatical world of fountain pens. This fine individual is the man responsible for my early introduction to vintage pens, which has always remained the core of my collection, even today.

For Retro 51 Scriptmaster, Polygon and Classic desk sets. The refill for the Retro 51 Desk Sets is made by Schmidt in Germany and the refills supplied could be marked as Retro 51 REF-5 or as Schmidt 8126 but they are exactly the same refill.

The SCHMIDT Capless system is a newly developed system for the most smooth and elegant writing. This system combines the individual writing character of a fountain pen with the problem-free handling comfort of a ball pen. For this writing system a cover cap is not necessary anymore. The new type of ink dries immediately on the paper but not in the system. And this for a long time, for more than one year!

Made in Germany by Schmidt for Retro 1951.

Fits the following Desk Set pens: Retro 51 Scriptmaster, Polygon and Classic.

Retro 51 models: | Beach Cruiser | Cioppino | Disney Friends | Double Eight | Scriptmaster | Tornado
Retro 51 has built a reputation for value-priced pens of good quality and unique designs.

2005 Retro 51 Scriptmaster Rollerball in Jade
The jade color is my favorite in the Scriptmaster line. In 2006 Retro 51 updated this model with the Scriptmaster 2 - new style and colors - but I prefer the original. The Scriptmaster 2 rollerball is essentially a ballpoint; no removable cap.
       Est Value: $60
